Book Illustrations
I was given the amazing opportunities to illustrate some books of my choosing. To continue my theme of gothic literature (can you tell I’m a bit obsessed?), I have made illustrations of Frankenstein by Mary Shelly and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. I had a ton of fun with these, and decided to do them both in the silhouette style to more them look like potentially they could be part of a series of books illustrated in this way.
Frankenstein by Mary Shelly
This book has got to be one of my favorite books of all time, if not my absolute favorite. I enjoyed capturing the darkness of the book in my cover design, but I wanted to tackle the idea of the book perhaps being presented to a younger generation. With the simple shapes and limited color palette, I think it can catch interest and make people who don’t know the full story to want to read more.
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson
The story of Henry Jekyll and his devious counterpart Edward Hyde has always been an interesting one to me. I love the idea of exploring the duality of man and I tried to include that concept in my design. My focus was the struggle between the two and the created elixir that made them possible, giving it a splash of color. I believe my design holds a certain elegance but still an intrigue to see what happens.
