A zine is a magazine-like publication usually made by a smaller group of people or an individual and often times it covers one topic. For this project, we had to make a completely original zine, including the writing, illustration, photography, everything. We were given the topic to write about, which was the Covid-19 pandemic and my own personal experience with it.

For this project, we were given the theme of Banned Books Week and given the task of making a poster using purely type. Posters have been used in designed for a long time and are one of the most effective ways of conveying a message quickly and powerfully.

In this project, we were given the task to design and make an ad that would be shown in a newspaper, whether online or physical.

This project’s goal was to help me realize that typography should be part of design and layout consideration just as much as photos, illustrations, color, paper, etc. It stretched my thinking and ability in using it, and showed me what could be done.

This assignment was probably one of the harder ones for me to figure out, but in the end I ended up learning so much. We were given lots of information or organize into a fillable form. Figuring out how to get it all on the page in a organized and easy to follow manner was harder than I first thought, but it was rewarding to figure out.

This is where I have the most fun, and where my true passion lies. I love the freedom I can have illustrating characters, some of these are fan art of media I enjoy, but most of them are character designs of my own creation.

We were given the task to create our own interactive online kiosk, and were given free reign to make it whatever we we wanted it to be. I decided to make mine into a sort of clicking informational game, were you can learn about different classic gothic literature books.

I was given the amazing opportunities to illustrate some books of my choosing. I have made illustrations of Frankenstein by Mary Shelly and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I had a ton of fun with these, and decided to do them both in the silhouette style to more them look like potentially they could be part of a series of books illustrated in this way.

I love all the different card designs that are out there, and wanted to try my hand at it. I wanted to make things that could attract a good amount of different people and I enjoyed the cards I came up with.

This is definitely an area where I feel I would benefit in putting more work into and making more, but I am proud of the pieces I was able to make during my school career.
